Francis (Frank) Storey (S/N198) was one of eight cousins who fought in WW1. Four were killed in action. Nelson Storey (42213) survived brother of Frank (198). Francis (Hank) Storey (2659) joined up w...ith Frank he was KIA 5 Aug 1917 AIF (Menin Gate). Francis (Frank) Wilson (12/2616) NZEF ex-All Black was KIA 19 Sep 1916 (Dernancourt). William Hewitt (32000) NZEF survived. Three brothers: Claude Storey (13568) NZEF AMR survived, Sydney Storey (70144) NZEF 4WMR, survived, Cecil Storey (48686) was KIA Oct 1917 (Nine Elms). Frank left NZ with his dog Blazer for Australia in March 1913 to join his cousin Francis 'Hack' Storey #2659 AIF. When war broke out Frank and Hack joined the AIF. Blazer was made the company mascot ...and went to New Guinea on the SS Wadonga. When they returned Hack left and went back farming and Frank left for Egypt. Blazer was again smuggled on board for the trip but discovered and left in the care of friends in Brisbane. Frank was killed on the heights at Gallipoli on the night of the landing and buried, later his grave was moved to Quins Post. His grave records his death as 26 April 1915. His parents got word of his death and traveled to Brisbane to collect Blazer. The Collie whimpered and climbed all over them when they arrived and they sat in the dirt hugged him and cried, Blazer came home to the family farm at Taniwha. He was all the family had left of Frank. Hack later called up and left for France with the 5th reinforcements in Nov 1916 and was too killed the following year. Read More
