Biographical Notes:

 A naval rating was killed by falling from a train as it was leaving Feilding tonight. He was Able-Seaman Howard David Bath, Royal New Zealand Navy, aged 23. Children noticed deceased having difficulty in boarding the train and reported the matter. Railway officials searched the line and discovered the body. Deceased's next-of-kin live in Invercargill. Deceased had seen action at Rendova, Guadalcanal, the Coral Sea and Munda.
