Biographical Notes:

“Sergeant Archie Currie (Canterbury Battalion, reported missing), was well-known in Christchurch as a piper and dancer. He was a piper in the Christchurch Caledonian Society's Pipe Band, and one of the pipers of the Canterbury Battalion. As a dancer his name frequently appeared, as also did that of his sister Ann and brother Robert. Sergeant Currie was a Woolston boy, and his father. Mr William Currie, still resides in the district. The missing soldier learnt his drill in the old Highland Rifles, rising from private to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Currie was over 30 years of age, a man of few words, and held in general esteem by all who knew him.” [Press, Volume LI, Issue 15286, 24 May 1915, Page 7]
