Biographical Notes:

"STAFF-SERGT.-MAJOR A. E. COAKLEY Staff-Sergeant-Major A. E. Coakley, who has died of influenza at Whangarei, was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Coakley, Thames. He was born in Canterbury, and educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington. After leaving school he was engaged in his father's business. On the outbreak of war he enlisted and left New Zealand with the 6th Haurakis, Main Body. He took part at the Gallipoli landing, shortly afterwards being wounded, and subsequently being invalided back home. He has been on the military staff, Whangarei, for nearly two years."
