Biographical Notes:

“The sympathy of friends from far and near has been extended to Mr and Mrs J. S. Patterson, "Riverseen", Woodville, since word was received by them of the death of their loved second son. Acting-Leading-Aircraftman Brian Arthur Patterson, of the Fleet Air Arm, as the result of a flying accident overseas. L.A.C Patterson left to join the Fleet Air Arm in July of last year and was nearing the completion of his training as a sub-lieutenant. Born in Woodville on October 31. 1917, most of his life was spent in Woodville and the surrounding districts. Educated at the Woodville District High School, he was placed third in the race for the Sullivan Cup in 1932 and was successful in winning the trophy in 1934. The love and esteem with which he was regarded has been shown by his friends in the many messages of sympathy received by his parents. Two brothers, Mr L. M. Patterson (Woodville) and Mr J. S. Patterson (of the Anti-Aircraft Battery) and one sister, Mrs R. B. Court (166 Cook Street. Palmerston North), are also left, to mourn their loss.” [Manawatu Standard, Volume LXII, Issue 156, 3 June 1942, Page 4]
