"Trooper Charles Clement Mclntyre, killed in action on March 30th, was the son of the late John Mclntyre, of Thornbury. Born at Thornbury 26 years ago, the late soldier was educated at the Flint’s Bush, Waihopai and S.B.H. Schools. After leaving the latter he took up fanning pursuits and was so engaged when he enlisted with the 16th Mounteds. He took a keen interest in amateur sports and was also an enthusiastic footballer, being a member of the Riverton Football Club, and prior to the outbreak of war represented the Western District against Eastern. During the time he was with his regiment he represented it in several matches, both in Egypt and France. His younger brother, Temporary Major E. S.
