"A member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps died in hospital this evening less than an hour after being struck by a motor truck when she was crossing the road from the New Plymouth Army Office.

She was: Corporal Daphne May Foster, aged 39, wife of Mr. J. S. Foster, of New Plymouth; Corporal Foster received severe head injuries."
