Biographical Notes:

“Private Edward Fitzgibbon (killed in action) was the third son of Mr Martin Fitzgibbon, of Rangiora. He was born and educated at North Loburn and was 39 years of age. He was farming in partnership with two brothers before going on military service with the 28th Reinforcements. Over a year before being drawn for service he enlisted, but was turned down by the Medical Board. A brother. Private Michael Fitzgibbon, is still at the front.” [Press, Volume LIV, Issue 16200, 1 May 1918, Page 8] BDM Online has his date of birth as 18/01/1879 and his name as Edmund, parents Johannah and Martin Fitzgibbon, but family research consistently shows his date of birth as 3/12/1878, and that is the date used here. His service record gives his DOB as 2/12/1878.
