Biographical Notes:

Born in Liverpool, England, He attested in Wellington on 13th August 1914 and trained in NZ until his departure for Gallipoli in April 1915. A gunshot wound to the thigh in August 1915 had him evacuated to the UK and New End Military Hospital, where he recovered and returned to Moascar Camp in Egypt in January 1916, where he was promoted to Corporal.

He remained in Egypt until embarking for France in April 1916 and taken on the strength on 1st Battery, New Zealand Field Artillery at the Somme where he reverted to the ranks at his own request.

On 28th May 1917 he had  leave to the UK until 4th August, when he rejoined his Battery which served at Messines and Paschendaele. In November 1917 he was sent to the UK “on duty” and left from Etaples camp to join the New Zealand Depot at Aldershot where he worked for 5 months.

In April 1918 he was again sent back to France, but was in hospital at Etaples within a few days, suffering from Influenza, passing away on 11/11/1918.
