Biographical Notes:

"A fatality occurred in Levin on Monday evening, a returned soldier, named Henry O’Bernie Furlong, aged 41 years, dying suddenly in the yard of the Levin Hotel. The late Private Furlong was a native of the Wairarapa, and enlisted at Masterton, where he had been employed as a wool-classer. One brother has been killed at the front and another is at present ill in hospital. Deceased served in the South African War. He resided in the Foxton district for some years prior to enlisting. An inquest was held before Mr W. C. Nation, District Coroner. After hearing the evidence a verdict was returned that death was caused by heart failure."
