Biographical Notes:

"...Later in the afternoon a training type of aircraft crashed near another South Island training station, the pilot losing his life and a pupil pilot receiving injuries. Those concerned are: Killed, Eagleson. Pilot Officer Hugh. Wife. Mrs N. M. Eagleson. Taupiri. Injured Grant, Leading Aircraftman Neil Baillie. Mother. Mrs G. M. Grant, Auckland.

INQUEST INTO AIRMAN’S DEATH An inquest into the death of Pilot Officer Hugh Eagleson, who was killed in a flying accident in the South Island on Friday was opened on Saturday morning before the Ashburton Coroner (Mr E. C. Bathurst). Evidence of identification was given by Flying Officer Keith Henry Dockery, and the inquest was adjourned sine die.
