Biographical Notes:

“The following information was found and provided by Ms. Jill Bratcher: Mr. Edwards was on "loan" to the Canadians at the time of his death. He was in San Francisco and was in a car accident. No one having claimed him, he was buried in the pauper's section. In fact, his grave had no marker until about five years ago, the Canadian War Graves Commission paid for one. "They were just out here recently to tend to his grave," I was told by a member of the Live Oak Cemetery Association. She explained that "sapper" was his rank. The only information she had that was not on the marker was his birth date of 15 December 1901.” [Source: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/13022441/james-edwards, Accessed: 30/07/2022]

“EDWARDS. —Mrs. J. Edwards and Family, of Mamaku, wish to sincerely thank all kind friends and relatives for letters, telegrams and personal messages of sympathy when dearly-loved husband and father, Sapper James  Edwards, was reported accidentally killed in San Francisco.” [New Zealand Herald, Volume 80, Issue 24742, 16 November 1943, Page 1]
