Biographical Notes:

“James Harold Richmond is recorded in the England 1911 census as living in Erdington, Birmingham, England, with his father James Bland Richmond and his stepmother Matilda Richmond. He was aged 16. His father had married Jane Cale (James Harold's mother) in 1894 and following her death (1904) married Matilda Cale in 1907. James Bland Richmond and Matilda Richmond are shown as living in Porirua, New Zealand on the 1914 electoral roll and again on the 1919 roll. Both died in New Zealand. It appears likely that James Harold lived for a period in New Zealand before moving to Australia, possibly accompanied by his father when he travelled to Australia. His father is shown as his next of kin, and living in Waverly, New South Wales, on his son's attestation paper signed on 22 June 1915. James Bland Richmond is shown on the New Zealand reserve list as living back in Porirua in 1917.” (DK)
