Biographical Notes:

"MR JAMES SWEENEY The death occurred while on guard duty of Mr James Sweeney, aged 66, a well-known horse-trainer. A son of the late Mr John Sweeney, of Hastings, he came to Hamilton from the Gisborne district eleven years ago. He was a veteran of the South African war, and enlisted during the Great War but did not go overseas. Mrs R. McLeod, of Hamilton, is a sister."
