Biographical Notes:

John Butler was Courts Martialed in South Africa and discharged. His service record contains no detail of the offence. However, it does state that he was killed at Winburg, serving with the Queenstown Rifle Volunteers. He appears in the casualty records held by Steve Watt and is listed in Watt's book, "In Memoriam" as buried in Winberg (Jack Coetze St.) Cemetery. His name does not appear on any memorial.
