Biographical Notes:

“An artillery despatch rider was killed when a motor cycle and a car on the Rotorua main road collided at Butler’s corner, Karapiro, at midday yesterday.  After the collision the car containing four people, who escaped with abrasions, travelled some distance and came to rest against a hedge. The victim was:— Leslie Mervyn Conrad, aged 21 years. His paybook did not disclose his next-of-kin, but it contained the name of a friend. Dorothy Sampson, of Longbeach, Ashburton. The despatch rider died a few minutes after the collision, from severe injuries. Both vehicles were badly damaged.
