Biographical Notes:

While attacking oil tanks at Khjen (Norway), his Hellcat was hit by anti-aircraft fire and severely damaged. He flew back to the carrier task force and baled out. The destroyer HMS Wager reported him drowned and that they tried unsuccessfully to recover him.
