Biographical Notes:

"Mr Terence Rodgers, of Totara has received the following telegram from the Premier: — "I am grieved to have to inform you that the Governor has received the sad news of the death of 206 Edward Rodgers of Kitchener's Fighting Scouts, from enteric fever, at Bloemfontein, on 21st January. Kindly accept my sympathy with you and yours in your sad bereavement." Mr Rodgers has also received a telegram from the Governor's Private Secretary making the same sad announcement. It may be mentioned that the deceased is Mr Rodgers' oldest son, and that his Christian name was Terence, but had to be changed for regimental reasons to avoid confusion with another member of the same name. The deceased left New Zealand with the Seventh Contingent as one of those in charge of the horses. He was then too young for enrolment in the New Zealand Contingent, but on arrival in South Africa joined Kitchener's Fighting Scouts. He took his departure from the North Island, where he had been employed for nearly three years before leaving. He was still under 21 years of age at the time of his death, and much sympathy will be felt with Mr Rodgers and his family in their loss."
