My husband Jack Sugrue was 9 years old and his other brother 10 when the telegram arrived. Jack answered the door but the older man delivering the telegram (not the usual postie) would not hand it over but said Jack must get his mother. Their mother was a dressmaker who worked from home in Greytown. The boys recall their mother reading the telegram and completing the fitting. Afterwards there was great sadness. Terry was flying a plane that encountered engine trouble during a training exercise. Terry was born 30 Sept 1920 and died 10 Jan 1943.
