Biographical Notes:

William Cragg was serving aboard the HMS Lapwing when the ship was torpedoed off the Kola Inlet near Murmansk, Russia, while on convoy escort duty. The ship was lost, broken in two, but as the stern was afloat for some 20 minutes, many of the crew survived.
