Lt Southworth graduated from Victoria University, Wellington. ( University Roll of Honour)

The Official History of New Zealand in the 2nd World War, The 21st Batallion, Page 92, describing their activities around Maleme has  "A patrol from A Company under Lieutenant Southworth was directed to move south-west and, if possible, outflank the opposition. They did not return. " No further reference is made to him.
