Biographical Notes:

"When an American truck, failing to negotiate a bend in Three Kings Road, crashed into a tram shelter, a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps who was standing in the shelter received injuries from which she died on the way to hospital. A young man who was standing beside her suffered only bruises. The victim was Miss Dorothy Nina Hansen, aged 24, whose mother, Mrs A. Hansen, resides at Silverstream, Wellington, Miss Hansen was attached to an army unit in Auckland. The vehicle passed right through the structure, bringing the roof down to the footpath. The truck then moved back on to the road and stopped with the front portion in a hedge on the opposite side of the road. The driver escaped injury."
