Biographical Notes:

"THROWN BY A HORSE IN RIVER WHANGAREI, February 25. George Beatty, aged 21, was drowned when trying to swim a horse across the Mangakahia river yesterday. The horse, which was only partly broken in, began playing up and threw Beatty, who was evidently struck on the head. The body was recovered."
