Biographical Notes:

“The mortal remains of the late Quartermaster William Frederick Alley, third son of Mr. C. H. Alley, cooper, of Clive, were interred at the Havelock Cemetery this afternoon. Deceased, who was very well known and respected in the Clive district, where he was born 46 years ago. died in the Napier Hospital this week, the cause being pneumonia following on influenza. He was a quartermaster in the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces and left N.Z. with the ninth reinforcements. At the end of the war he was retained in England and was connected with the Photographic Corps working on the Graves Commission in France. He was, prior to the war, engaged in Auckland in a photography business which he had previously carried on at Clive, where a number of years ago he was the school teacher. It is only a few weeks since he returned from England. This is the third death in the family in the course of a fortnight. His sister, who was living with her father in Farndon, died from the same complaint last week, while a brother-in-law, Sergt. J. Heron, died a week before that in Levin. “
