Biographical Notes:

Lester Harry Ransby, aged 27, a private attached to the military staff at the King Edward Barracks, was found to have committed suicide by shooting himself through the head with a .303 calibre service rifle on -May 6. Albert Leslie Emerson, staff sergeant-major and warrant-officer attached to the New Zealand Permanent Staff, stated that Ransby was an assistant storeman. On the afternoon of May 6 he heard someone go into the armoury and soon after he heard a rifle shot. On investigation he found Ransby with a severe head injury. He was dead on his arrival at hospital. He had been speaking to Ransby shortly before his death, and there was nothing in his behaviour or manner to indicate that he was about to take his life.
