WELL-KNOWN MARINER

CRUSHED BETWEEN VESSELS

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. In boarding a ship at Lyttelton Heads, Lieutenant Ralph Pearson, R.N.R., a well-known master mariner on the New Zealand coast, lost his life. Official information is not yet available, but it is stated that the accident occurred while Lieut. Pearson was transferring from the naval patrol  vessel to a ship. He was crushed between the two vessels.

Lieut. Pearson was born in England about 58 years ago. He came to New Zealand in 1912 as chief officer on the Opouri, and six months after his arrival he was appointed master of the vessel. Later he transferred to the Orepuki. He afterwards joined the Anchor Company, Nelson.

He leaves. a wife, a daughter, and three sons.
