Biographical Notes:

"Sergeant Cyril Winfield, whose death at the age of 43 years occurred in the New Plymouth hospital on Saturday, was a well-known resident of Inglewood, where he practised as a solicitor for about 11 years before volunteering for service in the army in 1941. In November of that year, Sergeant Winfield volunteered for service, and went overseas with the Third Echelon. He served in Greece and Libya, and was with the New Zealand Second Division in Italy until the fighting at Cassino, where he became ill and was invalided back to base. He returned to the Dominion two months ago, and had been in poor health since, entering the New Plymouth hospital about three weeks ago."
