Biographical Notes:

Leslie Irwin was the Instructor on a Tiger Moth ll with trainee pilot Murray Gillon. Was seen to crash into the sea a mile off Brighton Beach, Dunedin. It is believed that they got into a spin from which they did not recover. [ For Your Tomorrow, Errol Martyn, Volume 2, Page 241]

Public Contributions:

Submitted by: Jenny Collins (nee Graham)
Relationship to casualty: my father Des Graham trained with Murray Gillon at Taieri in 1944. He wrote about him in his memoirs.
I have attached 2 Papers Past clips. The crash notice and the birth of Blue's son to his widow in October 1944. Such a tragic story, I wonder what happened to the family.
