Biographical Notes:

From his Service Record, Arthur was wounded at Gallipoli (gunshot wounds to the arm and right leg)  in August 1915 and evacuated, via Alexandria, to  the New Zealand hospital at Pont-el- Koubbeh, Cairo. Said to be seriously ill a few days later. He recovered sufficiently to be moved to England on  December 8th, from Alexandria, and admitted to  the New Zealand hospital at Walton on Thames. In August 1916, he was in Hornchurch camp. in Essex, convalescing and his record shows that he should be discharged, as "permanently unfit for war service". However, his discharge was not enacted and becoming ill again, he was moved to the New Zealand hospital at Brockenhurst, where he died from his wounds in September 1916, some 13 months after the original injury. It is not entirely clear why he was buried at Earlsfield, a considerable distance from Brockenhurst, but the record shows mention of  an Edgar Day, of Day and Day, Motor Experts, 114 Long Acre, London W C.
