Biographical Notes:

(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. The practice of persons standing on the body of a truck when the vehicle was in motion was condemned by the district coroner, Mr. J G. Draper, to-day, when finding that Private Arthur Frank Cook, aged 55, of Auckland, died from head injuries received when he fell from a moving Army truck in Kamo Road, Whangarei. The driver of the truck said that two men were leaning on the cab of his open truck, the sideboards of which had been removed. Private Cook's companion in, the rear of the truck said it  was too bumpy to sit down on the iron floor of the empty truck. As the vehicle rounded a bend Private Cookturned as if about to sit down, overbalanced and landed on his head on the roadway.
