Biographical Notes:

"OffICER’S DEATH in KOREA. New Zealand Army Headquarters announced today the death in Korea of Major Barton Wicksteed, of the New Zealand Headquarters Unit. His next-of-kin is Mrs. E. M. Wicksteed, of Worthing, Sussex, England. Major Wicksteed, a New Zealander living in England at the time of the outbreak of war in Korea, flew from England to join K Force on active service on March 6, 1951. As a major he filled a staff appointment on the control organisation of British Commonwealth Forces in Korea, and from the middle of last year he commanded a British supply and transit centre at Taegu, about 120 miles to the north of Pusan, the main port for South Korea. During this period he paid frequent visits to New Zealand units serving with the First Commonwealth Division in the front line. Major Wicksteed served as a regular officer in the Royal New Zealand Artillery from 1930 till 1940 and in the Pacific during the war. He was released from the Army in 1945."
