Biographical Notes:

"CAPTAIN C. D. BROWN, M.M. Captain C. D. Brown, M.M., reported died or wounds, was born at Te Mata. Raglan, 43 years ago and went overseas in the Great War with the 19th Reinforcements. He was awarded the Military Medal and recommended for a commission during the Battle or Messines. On returning to New Zealand he entered business at Putaruru and some years later went to Opotiki, selling his business at the outbreak of the present war to enlist. He left with the Third Echelon as captain and quartermaster and after serving in Greece was appointed a company commander. While in Opotiki he was a member of the Town board and the Hospital board and secretary or the Returned Services’ Association, in addition to being commanding officer of a territorial unit for seven years.
