Biographical Notes:

KAWAKAWA, Thursday. At the inquest into the death on September 18 of Gunner Charles James Drysdale. aged 19, son of Mr. Charles Drysdale. wine and spirit merchant, of Auckland, the verdict was that it was due to heart disease, possibly accentuated by influenza. Members of the same unit as deceased said that after a 200-yard run they rested. It was noticed that Drysdale was not with the party. He was seen lying unconscious on the side of the road. Artificial respiration was applied until he was conveyed by an army truck to a doctor, but he died.
