Biographical Notes:

“A military funeral was accorded on Saturday to the late Sergeant Claud Dent, M.S.M., a firing party being provided by members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The deceased soldier left New Zealand in May, 1916. with the twelfth reinforcements, and on his arrival in France. was attached to the 15th Battery N.Z.F.A., in which he served continuously until the cessation of hostilities in November, 1918. While serving overseas he contracted a serious illness, which ultimately resulted in his death on January 1. Deceased was the eldest, son of Mr. E. W. Dent, of Brighton Road, Parnell, and prior to enlistment was in the service of the Railway Department.” [New Zealand Herald, Volume LVII, Issue 17360, 6 January 1920, Page 5]
