Biographical Notes:

Private Claude Ewan Kermode, who died at the Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, and was accorded a military funeral last Saturday, was the youngest son of Mr Joseph Kermode, 32 St. Asaph street. His two elder brothers both Main Body men, are still in England. Before enlisting, Private Kermode was a student at the School of Art, and showed great promise as an artist, having gained the College Medal, as well as scholarships and various prizes.

He had been admitted to the Sanatarium 12 months earlier, suffering from Haemoptysis.
