Biographical Notes:

"CWGC = 7/6/15 age 32 ; Born August 30th 1887, in Dunedin, New Zealand, the sixth son of John Henry Lowe, formerly chief engineer of the New Zealand Government Railways, and Charlotte Amyatt Lowe of Whitstone House, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. (address of father on RND card: 23 Alderbrook Road, Balham, London S.W.) In 1909 he enlisted in the London Division of the RNVR, rising to the rank of Petty Officer, serving afloat on several occasions and completing gunnery courses at Whale Island, Portsmouth. He was mobilized for service on the outbreak of war in August 1914 and was employed for the first three days drilling recruits on HMS President. On August 7th 1914, he was posted to HMS Macedonia as Surgeon Probationer (present at the Battle of the Falkland Islands on December 8th 1914). In January 1915 he returned to England, where he was gazetted Sub Lieutenant, and in February he was appointed Commanding Officer of 'D' Company of the Collingwood Battalion."
