Biographical Notes:

MAJOR G. R. PARK Major George Reginald Park, M.C. and Bar, died at Hanmer Springs on Tuesday after a long illness. Major Park had a distinguished career in the last war, and during the present war was a staff officer at Southern Military Headquarters. Major Park was born 50 years ago, and was educated at the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He served in the territorial field artillery from 1912 to 1914. Throughout the Great War he was on active service as an artillery officer. - He was commissioned in the field, and in August, 1917, as a second lieutenant was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In the following December he was awarded a Bar to the M.C. At the end of the Great War Major Park took up farming, and later entered the Public Service. In 1940 he was mobilised for military duties and served with an artillery regiment. He was appointed artillery staff officer to the Home Guard, and organised Home Guard artillery units throughout the South Island. Major Park is survived by his widow and one son.
