Biographical Notes:

The 1000 bomber raid on Germany.

Wellington 1C DV/701P took off from Elsham Woods Lincolnshire at 22.48 and was shot down over Germany, crashing at Zons am Rhine, 11km south of Dusseldorf.The bodies of the Captain (Harold Blake) and at least 2 others were recovered at the time, but post -war, their graves could not be located and all 5 airmen are remembered on the Runnymede memorial.
