While practicing deck landings at sea on HMS Formidable, John Houston’s Spitfire missed all the arrestor wires, overshot the bows and sank. He was attached to HMS Landrail and based in Scotland. [For Your Tomorrow, Errol Martyn Vol 1 p 263]
