Biographical Notes:

“PILOT-OFFICER J. H. BOMFORD – Mrs B. K. Bomford, Takapuna, has received official advice of the death on active service of her son, Pilot Officer John Hamilton Bomford, who was well known in Hamilton as a reporter on the New Zealand Herald’s local staff. Born 24 years ago, Pilot Officer Bomford was educated at the Takapuna Grammar School, and then joined the staff of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company. After a turn at journalism he was employed by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company in Fiji up to the date of his enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.” [Waikato Times, Volume 131, Issue 21877, 4 November 1942, Page 2] John Bomford had enlisted with the Fiji Defence Force on 1 September 1939 before enlisting in the RNZAF on 6 July 1941.
