Biographical Notes:

The late Mr Herbert Young, who passed away at Christchurch Hospital on November 15, was in the New Zealand Railway service at Little River when he joined the Sixteenth Reinforcement. He saw considerable service in France, and took part in the battle of Messines. After contracting nephritis he was some months in hospital in England, being then invalided to New Zealand, arriving home on February 3 last. He later resumed railway duty, being clerk in the parcels rffice at Christchurch Station when attacked by influenza. After a week’s illness at his home he was taken to the Hospital, where he succumbed to Pneumonia a few hours later. Mr Young was in his twenty-fifth year and was highly respected by all who knew him.
