Biographical Notes:

Owen Richards and Avery Dowell took of from Hal Far, Malta to attack a convoy of 4 ships, in their Albacore 1. They were last seen when ordered into the attack, 20 miles west of Sicily. Dowell’s remains later washed up on the island of Stromboli, but was later re-buried at Catania, while Richards is remembered on the New Zealand Naval Memorial.
