Biographical Notes:

The death occurred in the Cook Hospital last night of Mr. Robert McColl Stevenson, aged 35, after a short illness. Mr. Stevenson was born in Scotland, and came to New Zealand at an early age, Being educated at the Gisborne Central  School. He was apprenticed to the Gisborne Gas Company, and by his diligence and ability became one of the most efficient fitters ever employed by the company. Mr. Stevenson was a keen member of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, which he represented in numerous regattas. He was a keen member of the Home Guard before being transferred to the National Military Reserve. He entered camp when the reserve was mobilised, but owing to his state of health he was sent to hospital.

Mr. Stevenson leaves a widow and one child to mourn their loss. A service will be held in Cochrane’s chapel at 2 p.m. to-morrow, after which the funeral will leave for the Taruheru cemetery,
