Biographical Notes:

"Rifleman Sydney James Long, reported missing June 7, now believed killed, is the only son of Mr William Long, of Pukekohe. He was born at Parnell and educated at the Pukekohe District High School. Prior to enlisting he was engaged in the coachbuilding trade with Mr W. James, of Whangarei. He left with the 17th Reinforcements."
