Biographical Notes:

Over-balancing and falling 20ft on to the rocks below, a gunner stationed at Battery Point was killed almost instantaneously this morning. He was William David Burke, of 74 Clyde Street, Invercargill, aged 20. Burke, who was alone at the time, was tipping rubbish over a cliff when he lost his balance and fell, striking his head on some rocks.
