Biographical Notes:

"Word has been received that Private William Harry, third son of Mr and Mrs H. Harry, of 39, Durham Street, Sydenham, was killed in action in France on December 16. At the time of his death Private Harry was thirty years of age. He was born in Sydenham and was educated at the Sydenham School. After leaving he was employed for a time by Mr Forrester, butcher. Later he joined the staff of the Christchurch Meat Company and when he enlisted had been with that firm for fourteen years. Private Harry had been connected with St Saviour's Church, Sydenham, all his life, and always took an active part in all church work. For two years he was a member of the vestry. He was also a member of the Church of England Men's Society, Sydenham Branch. A younger brother, Benjamin, felt [sic] with the Twenty-third Reinforcements, and the two brothers were serving together in France up till the time of Private Harry's death. His youngest brother, Alfred, is with the Thirty-fourth Reinforcements." [Lyttelton Times, Volume CXVII, Issue 17694, 22 January 1918, Page 4]
