Haugesund (Rossebo) Var Frelsers Cemetery

Location Information: 

The town of Haugesund is situated to the south of Bergen on the Route 11. From the Route 11 turn off at the signs for Rossebo church and follow this road past the church to the T Junction. At the T Junction turn left into Salhusvein and the cemetery is located along this road on the right.

Historical Information: 

The cemetery contains 44 graves in which are buried 8 men of the Royal Navy of whom 6 belonged to the Fleet Air Arm and 2 are unidentified, and 36, airmen, 22 were those of the Royal Air Force of whom one is unidentified, 9 of the Royal Canadian Air Force, 3 of the Royal Australian Air Force and 2 of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The majority were concentrated here at the end of hostilities from nine out-lying places in the area, where they crashed. The Plot is maintained by the Municipality of Haugesund. The Cross of Sacrifice stands in a central position behind the rows of Portland stone headstones.
