Biographical Notes:

"FALL FROM AMMUNITION  CART. An accident, which terminated fatally, occurred at the Defence Office, Rutland Street, shortly before five o'clock last evening to an Army Service Corps driver, William Manning Longdon, residing in James Street, Archhill. Langdon, who had been employed as a driver by the Defence Department since last September, was bringing a waggon load of small arms ammunition to the Drill Hall. According to the story of a bystander, he had difficulty in controlling tho horse down Symonds Street, the weight of the load on a sagging breeching strap making driving difficult, As he swung the waggon round the sharp turn necessary to bring it through the gate, it gave a heavy lurch onto the paved gutter. Langdon, who was sitting on the ammunition boxes, fell off the front of the vehicle, a wheel passing over the small of his back and both arms. He was picked up showing evidence of serious injury. Dr. Knight was summoned, and after an examination, ordered his immediate removal to the hospital. A further examination showed that Langdon was suffering from a broken arm and severe internal injuries. Ho died immediately after admission Langdon, who was a carpenter by trade, was a married man with two children. He was 43 years of age."
