Biographical Notes:

“Sergeant James Alexander Moir, the youngest son of Mr James Moir, of this city, who was killed in action on August 25, was educated at the Christian Brothers' School, and before leaving for the front was employed by Messrs Battersby and Co. He left New Zealand with the 14th Reinforcements, and had been in the firing line practically all the time. He was promoted to sergeant, and the last word received by his parents stated that he was at a training school, and doing well. Sergeant Moir was 22 years of age. His other only brother (William Francis Moir) is at present on active service, having left with the Main Body.“ [Otago Witness, Issue 3367, 25 September 1918, Page 42]
