Biographical Notes:

Gerald Odlin was the Staff Pilot on a navigation exercise with Pilot William Johnson, in a Harvard. At 13.35 hrs they were seen falling through the cloud in a spin, from which they did not recover, crashing off Paraparaumu Beach. [For Your Tomorrow, Errol Martyn, Volume 1, Page 282]
